Nick Chaffe

With over 8 years of commercial and partnership marketing experience, most recently as commercial manager at Visit London, this is his first venture into the charity world.

“I am delighted to be able to apply my knowledge and skills to such a powerful and compelling vision. When Harold and I met back in 2007 we shared many of the same beliefs when it came to developing a common give-back platform for the tourism sector. Sometimes disillusioned by the middle-man approach and lack of long term sustainability, we pledged to launch something that gave both travellers and travel businesses exactly what they needed. A way of giving back, without hassle or major cost.”

Harold Goodwin, Chair of Trustees

Dr Harold Goodwin has worked on 4 continents with local communities, their governments and the tourism industry. Harold is Professor of Responsible Tourism Management and Director of the International Centre for Responsible Tourism at Leeds Metropolitan University. Harold researches on tourism, local economic development and poverty reduction, conservation and responsible tourism and teaches Masters and PhD students as well as the industry, local communities, governments, and conservationists.

“In the late 1990’s when I was working closely with a number of tour operators developing Responsible Tourism policies it was apparent that there was a great deal of charitable giving by holidaymakers and that this was a challenge for the operators, cash was often sent to field staff to pass on and parcels arrive at the offices with an expectation that the contents will be taken out to the destination. Later research in The Gambia revealed that 48% of UK holidaymakers arrive carrying gifts in support of health, education and livelihoods. TravelPledge has been in gestation a long time, Nick Chaffe has brought the energy and time to give it life. I believe it to be the best available one-stop-shop for travellers and holidaymakers wanting to give back to the people and places they have come to care about.”
