PROJECT GOALS
To train two classroom assistants to become qualified pre-school teachers at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, South Africa. Currently working as teaching assistants or volunteers in the local township, the women will be mentored throughout a 2 year pre-school teacher training programme.
DETAILS
The trainee pre-school teachers will attend The Port Elizabeth Early Learning Centre, a dept of Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and participate in a two year training programme to become fully qualified Early Childhood Development practitioners.
The goal of this project is to ensure that the women gain qualifications to help them find meaningful employment and that all township children receive formal pre-school teaching.
DELIVERY
Whilst studying at the Port Elizabeth Early Learning Centre, each of the women will benefit from mentoring provided by the Calabash Trust who have worked with township schools and pre-schools since 1999.
PROJECT TARGET – £2,100
R 30,396 (circa £2,100)
R 15,198 per trainee, per 2 year course. This includes all registration fees, transportation and lunch allowance, graduation expenses and mentoring by Calabash.
